The weekend of October 14-16, Porsche held its renowned "Rennsport" festival at the Laguna Seca raceway outside of Monterey. It was a phenomenal event, with hundreds of racing versions, including some of the most iconic Porsches in history, and thousands of additional cars driven by attendees. Equally as exciting: Porsche flew in drivers covering more than 50 years of Porsche's racing history.

You might be walking past and spot Derek Bell standing in front of the Le Mans winning 917.

You look around, and suddenly, David Piper joins the conversation.

Take a stroll through the paddocks, and quickly you find Porsche's of incredible racing heritage:

Walk into the Porsche park, and witness both iconic concepts, and modern versions soon to become icons.

There is nothing quite like Rennsport.

These amazing cars are not merely presented for show. No, they were also raced flat out during the events. Iconic cars such as the famous #20 917 from the film Le Mans, to Brumos racers, to vintage racers. This is what separates Rennsport from any concours event or festival.

Mulholland and the Rock Store

There was a legend floating around Los Angeles in the late 1960's that a steak dinner at the finest restaurant in town would be given to the police officer who could catch up and issue a traffic citation to Steve McQueen. McQueen frequently tore up Mulholland in one of his many cars, especially his Jaguar XKSS, and the first sports car he purchased after gaining his role in "Wanted Dead or Alive", his 1958 Speedster.

The reward remained unclaimed.

That legend was in the back of a few minds as Chad gathered with some friends near Mulholland for a reunion of sorts.

Several special Porsches joined Chad's recent orange 911 project car.

One of those special Porsches was Steve's original 930 Turbo. Chad recalled once when he had just gotten his license, and tried sneaking the 930 Turbo out by rolling it quietly out of the garage and down the road before firing the engine. As he was headed out of the neighborhood, he passed his dad coming back to the house. Ooops.....

Chad met up with Rock Store owner Ed Savko and shared some memories of the days Steve would ride up with pals Charles Bronson and James Coburn. Ed shared with Chad the story of how a happy Steve and Neile McQueen made a day trip out in the Speedster to visit Ed and show off their newborn son, six month old Chad. A great story.

Limited Edition "McQueen" Helmet

My favorite helmet designer, Troy Lee, has created some stunning, limited edition helmets that pay tribute to Steve McQueen in the seminal film Le Man. Heavily influenced by the 917 he raced in the film, these helmets feature his racing number and the classic blue and orange colors. Chad will signing a limited number of these special helmets on Saturday, December 17, 2010 at Troy’s store in Costa Mesa, CA, from 4-6 p.m.

Celebrate Steve McQueen at a special event

The Jules Verne Foundation has graciously honored Steve McQueen with its distinguished Jules Verne award. On November 7, the Foundation, along with the City of Los Angeles, will honor McQueen by naming a square after him. Chad will be leading a parade at the event, driving a special Bullitt Mustang. Owners of motorcycles and vintage (1930-1980) cars can join in the event by registering with the Jules Verne Foundation. Monies raised during the charity event will benefit the Foundation and the Boys Republic.

Troy Lee Designs Opens First Store in CA

Our pal Troy Lee has opened his first store in THE LAB at Costa Mesa. Featuring TLD’s awesome designs and stylin’ threads, it’s also the place to get cool Team TLD race gear featuring the McQueen Racing logo, and get a peek at the limited edition Steve McQueen helmets. The store will feature future moto-influenced clothing, including some cool collaborations between McQueen Racing and Troy Lee Designs.

Montreal Grand Prix

Chad and Chase were special guests at the Montreal Grand Prix, courtesy of Tag Heuer, where they met McLaren drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton set the pole position and raced hard for the checkered flag, while Button finished only four seconds behind for second place. Hamilton leads in points with Button close behind.

Hot Rod TV Mustang

Hot TV Highlights the Classic Steve McQueen Mustang

The latest edition of Hot Rod TV focuses on the classic Highland Green Mustang made famous in the film Bullitt. The show features interviews with custom car industry and film personalities, as well as Chad and Chase, discussing the reasons why this car remains an icon. The new Gateway Classic McQueen Mustang is featured, which is a modern interpretation of the classic car. Click here for the schedule of air times.

Chase McQueen Wins His First 3 Races

Another generation of McQueen is poised to carry on the family legacy of racing. Chase, racing a Tony Kart, has won the first three of his kart racing series.

McQueen Racing Debuts at Supercross

McQueen Racing debuted at Supercross 2010 in Anaheim, partnering with Troy Lee Designs to launch our new brand. It was an incredible event, with lots of fans stopping by to extend their well wishes for the new company. Chad and his son Chase enjoyed hanging out with Team TLD during practice and the main event.

The new McQueen Racing logo debuted on the TLD team jersey and race bike.

Troy was joined by On Any Sunday director Bruce Brown, and Motorcycle Hall of Famer Malcolm Smith, who originally appeared with Steve McQueen in Brown’s iconic documentary.

Gerry Lisi, the owner of Metisse Motorycles, showed off the awesome Metisse Desert Racer. He and Chad fired up the iconic bike, which is a limited edition faithful reproduction of the motorcycle originally designed by Steve McQueen and Bud Ekins using a Rickman frame, developed under license from GreenLight, the exclusive representative for Steve McQueen. The sound was glorious, and people just stopped what they were doing to run over and hear this incredible machine. Hear it for yourself below.

Team TLD rider Wil Hahn managed a 5th place finish despite a rough start

Steve McQueen fans got to see the premier of the Steve McQueen limited edition helmets, custom designed by Troy Lee and also licensed through GreenLight. Only 750 of these full face helmets will be available worldwide.

It was a clear and glorious evening for a race, and Steve McQueen was well represented by Team TLD.
